It usually starts with a sigh in front of the mirror or maybe a widening parting, a few extra strands on the pillow, or that pesky spot on the crown that’s suddenly more visible than usual. Hair loss, especially when it begins to look like balding, can catch you off guard. And while it’s easy to feel panicked or embarrassed, the truth is: you’re not alone.
So how do we care for our hair when bald spots begin to appear?
Bald patches can arise from a range of causes like temporary stress-induced hair fall (telogen effluvium) and hormonal changes to chronic issues like alopecia areata, thyroid disorders, or scalp infections. The key to effective treatment lies in identifying the root cause, says Siddhanth Agarwal, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Avimee Herbal. “Temporary baldness often shows signs of diffuse thinning, shedding, or patches that regrow over time. These are commonly triggered by post-illness recovery (such as after COVID-19), nutritional deficiencies, or stress,” he adds.

Nature Knows Best, but Needs Help
We’ve all heard of kitchen remedies like onion juice, aloe vera, and even essential oils like rosemary and tea tree. But here’s the catch: Using them in their raw form doesn’t always guarantee results. “Home remedies like onion juice, aloe vera, or essential oils help in regrowing hair on bald patches and the best way to use them effectively. Yes, natural remedies can help, but only when used in the right formulation, with consistency and care,” explains Agarwal.
He notes that onion juice is rich in sulfur, which supports collagen production; aloe vera soothes inflamed scalps; and essential oils stimulate follicles. However, if not used properly, these can irritate the scalp or be poorly absorbed. Instead, look for well-formulated products that combine these ingredients safely and effectively.

The hair expert recommends a simple three step routine for hair care:
Balding doesn’t have to be a dead end. With the right diagnosis, consistent scalp care, and a well-balanced diet, you can reclaim not just your hair, but your confidence. No matter how many oils or tonics you apply, if your diet and scalp hygiene aren’t in check, progress will be slow. “Your hair is a reflection of your internal health. You need a 360° approach like targeting internal nutrition, scalp environment, and external care,” says Agarwal. That means loading up on protein, iron, zinc, and biotin etc for strong, healthy roots. On the flip side, neglecting scalp hygiene by letting product buildup or dandruff accumulate can clog follicles and worsen hair fall.
