Do you find yourself contemplating the best options to combat the signs of ageing? With an array of treatments available, two of the most popular choices are dermal fillers and facelifts. While both aim to enhance facial aesthetics, they offer different benefits and cater to distinct needs. Unfortunately, misconceptions surrounding these procedures can often lead to confusion. Therefore understanding the differences between fillers and facelifts is important for making informed decisions about your facial rejuvenation journey.
Fillers, or dermal fillers, are injectable treatments that use substances like hyaluronic acid to restore lost volume, reduce wrinkles, and smooth fine lines, explains Dr Karishma Kagodu, a plastic and cosmetic surgeon at Dr. Karishma Aesthetics, Bengaluru. “Ideal for those who want to delay the signs of ageing or are not ready for surgery, fillers stimulate collagen production, enhancing facial contours and addressing static wrinkles around the mouth and lips," says Dr Kagodu, adding, “On the other hand, a facelift (or rhytidectomy) involves surgical intervention. This procedure removes excess skin, tightens underlying tissues, and repositions the skin on the face and neck, providing a more permanent solution for sagging skin and deep folds. Facelifts are best suited for people with strong, well-defined bone structures seeking dramatic, long-lasting results.” Factors such as age, natural facial contours, and the severity of ageing symptoms dictate whether fillers or a facelift is more appropriate.
