There have always been reports that actress Hina Khan left her hit serial 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' on a sour note. And there were also reports that she and the show's producer, Rajan Shahi, were not on speaking terms, and that too had a tiff when she left the show in 2016.
But now, in a conversation with Telly Talk, Rajan Shahi has revealed each and every detail of what went wrong and why.
When the reporter asked him if he was the one who terminated the contract, Rajan explained that both Hina Khan and Karan (who played Akshara and Naitik, respectively) put in all their hard work in the initial 5–6 years, but in the last year it became difficult to work with the actors as they would interfere in the script, etc.
Rajan Shahi then went on to say that he had heard of the tantrums and also came to know of the fact that Hina wanted to move on and quit the show.
"Five years was good, and hard work definitely. But the last few months and the year were a little problematic. There was interference in the script, and the friction had started. Unpleasantness was coming," Rajan told the publication.
He said they also arranged for a meeting where he, along with Hina and the channel heads, decided that she could leave but would have to work during the notice period.
He further said: "There were many issues with Hina, and we also had a discussion with the channel head. Then we decided to part ways on a good note. So a meeting was set up between Channel, me, and Hina. We mutually decided that she would work during this period peacefully. What happened after the meeting was that problems started on a day-to-da basis, and there were many issues."
While talking about what led him to take the harsh decision of terminating her contract, one day Hina refused to deliver her lines that were praising Naira (Shivangi Joshi). She refused, but Rajan said he wanted those lines and felt they sat well with his script.
"One day an incident happened when there was a line about Shivangi's character Naira, which Hina refused to perform. She said I would not say certain lines. I was fed up, and I said I had seen all this for many days. I told Hina, "These are the correct lines and are needed for my story." She said I would not shoot it, and I said then leave the set. Then she went into her make-up room. I told my team that it would not get cut. She sat down the whole day. I told her you could leave the set, and she said she would not leave the set. She sat in the make-up room 9–9 and left after that. Then Vivek Jain messaged her that though there is one month remaining for your contract but your services are terminated from today, please do not come on set," explained Rajan Shahi.
"The next day, she shot the same scene. But after the pack-up, we are not interested in working with you, so we are terminating this contract," he further added.
Rajan said he asked his team to scrap whatever Hina had shot after the day of the incident, and he decided to convey his decision to the channel three days later.
Hina is not in touch with Rajan Shahi, but they are on cordial terms.
Hina Khan had quit the show after playing the role of Akshara for eight long years. After Hina, Mohsin and Shivangi took over as leads.
