Pooja Hegde, dressed in a light pink sari, ties a band around Suriya’s wrist, while he, in a black kurta, makes a heartfelt promise to her in Tamil:

“(I) will control my temper. Will quit working with my father. Violence, rowdyism, and hooliganism… will quit everything from this moment. Will try to smile and be happy. The purpose of my birth, in your language, my Dhammam, is love. Pure love. That's it. I'm saying it cut and right. Now, tell me, should we get married?”

As he speaks, the emotional intensity of the moment is mirrored by flashes from his darker life, the world of crime he cannot escape.

Suriya’s character, seemingly trying to turn a new leaf, struggles to leave behind the criminal path laid out by his father.

The juxtaposition of tenderness and brutality is clear as we see glimpses of him engaging in violent actions, from punching through walls to pummeling foes. The teaser is filled with high-octane moments, including scenes of Suriya drinking and smoking, which give us a peek into the morally complex character he portrays.

The presence of other formidable actors in the film adds to the intrigue. Joju George, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, and Nasser all appear in the teaser, hinting at key roles that will no doubt create riveting conflicts in the story. Their menacing presence suggests that Suriya’s character will be caught in a web of love, violence, and betrayal, making for a multi-layered narrative.

Retro, which carries the tagline "Love, Laughter, and War," promises to be an intense yet emotionally charged gangster film. Produced under the banner of Suriya and his wife Jyothika’s 2D Entertainment, in collaboration with Stone Bench Films, the film features music composed by Santhosh Narayanan. Shreyaas Krishna’s cinematography and Shafique Mohamed Ali’s editing will undoubtedly bring the raw emotion and high-stakes drama of this story to life.

Fans of Suriya, who last saw the actor in the action-packed fantasy epic Kanguva earlier this year, are eagerly awaiting his next venture. His collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj has generated massive buzz, with expectations high for an action-packed yet deeply emotional journey. This film marks an exciting chapter in his career, and the teaser has only fueled the anticipation.

Following Retro, Suriya is set to collaborate with RJ Balaji for another project, which will also see the reunion of Suriya and actress Trisha Krishnan after nearly two decades. Their last on-screen pairing was in the 2005 film Aaru making this reunion all the more special for fans.

With Retro, Karthik Subbaraj is set to take audiences on a thrilling ride of love, action, and crime, making this an unmissable cinematic experience.
