The countdown to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 has just become even more exciting, with India’s very own singing sensation Shreya Ghoshal announced as the star performer at the grand opening ceremony in Guwahati.
Her performance will set the stage for the much-anticipated tournament opener between India and Sri Lanka on 30 September. Adding to the magic, Shreya has also recorded the official anthem, “Bring It Home,” a song that celebrates the passion, unity, and unstoppable energy of women’s cricket, as India Today reported.
In a move sure to delight cricket lovers, the ICC has introduced record-low ticket prices for this edition. Tickets for Indian league games will start at just Rs 100 (about USD 1.14) during the initial sales phase. The goal is straightforward: to make sure that stadiums are crowded with enthusiastic spectators, reflecting the rising popularity of women's cricket globally.
Tickets go on sale from Thursday, 4 September, at 19:00 IST through an exclusive Google Pay pre-sale window, which will run until Monday, 8 September. The second phase of public sales begins on Tuesday, 9 September, at 20:00 IST, with tickets available at Tickets.cricketworldcup.com.
This Women's World Cup edition is particularly significant because it is the competition's first time returning to India in twelve years. In addition to Colombo, Sri Lanka, matches will be held in Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam, and Navi Mumbai.
With Shreya Ghoshal's voice serving as the ideal crescendo to begin the spectacle, the opening ceremony in Guwahati is sure to be a spectacular fusion of cricket, culture, and music.
On the cricketing front, the Indian team has made a last-minute adjustment. Uma Chetry has stepped in to replace wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia, who sustained a knee injury during preparations in Visakhapatnam.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur will once again lead from the front, supported by vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, alongside experienced campaigners such as Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Singh Thakur, and Richa Ghosh. Standby players include Tejal Hasabnis, Prema Rawat, Priya Mishra, Minnu Mani, and Sayali Satghare.
