While social media has been wild with MS Dhoni and Hookah memes, the former India captain was spotted enjoying tennis at the ongoing US Open. Dhoni was present at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday to witness one of tennis' biggest icons Novak Djokovic in action against Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinal tie.
Businessman Hitesh Sanghvi shared a picture with Dhoni and a clip from Djokovic's match on his Instagram account.
Djokovic advances into US Open semis
Djokovic defeated Fritz 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 to advance to yet another semifinal appearance at a major tennis tournament. The Serb celebrated beating Fritz with some dance moves to music from the hit movie "KPop Demon Hunters" that were taught to him by his daughter, Tara, who turned 8 on Tuesday.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion called the victory “a big present for” Tara, who is not at Flushing Meadows.
He will next meet rising tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz in the final four clash on Saturday. The 22-year-old Spaniard has already won five Grand Slams and will look to upstage Djokovic at the big stage.
Currently ranked world number two, Alcaraz has defeated Djokovic thrice, but it is the latter who holds a better head-to-head record. Djokovic have won five of the total eight meetings between the two.
Dhoni-Hookah controversy
Dhoni has stepped away from cricket and only takes part in the Indian Premier League, but stories related to him still continue to dominate social media. For instance, "Captain Cool" finds his name embroiled in Hookah controversy, which has taken internet by storm.
It all began with an old clip of Irfan Pathan going viral, and led to memes. Fans also dug out Dhoni's archive photos with teammate, videos, past interviews linking the wicketkeeper's fondness with Hookah.
Such has been the case that Pathan faced massive trolling for his viral remarks and had to address the matter, in which he claimed that his statement has been twisted.
