This Diwali, Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's supernatural comedy Thamma, which debuted in theatres on October 21, 2025, added glitz to the big screen.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, thefilm had been one of the year’s most talked-about releases — and for good reason.
Not only did it mark the fresh pairing of Ayushmann and Rashmika, but it also expanded the ever-popular Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MCHU), home to blockbusters like Stree and Bhediya.
By bringing vampires into the MCHU's world of witches, werewolves, and ghosts, Thamma takes the franchise in an exciting new direction.
The film's flawless fusion of humour, heart, and supernatural mischief has won accolades from both critics and fans. While the film's peculiar blend of laughs and scares has made it a festive hit at the box office, Ayushmann and Rashmika's chemistry has become a major talking point.
For those who couldn’t catch it in theatres, there’s some exciting news. As per GQ India, Thamma will soon stream on Amazon Prime Video, its official digital partner.
Although the platform hasn’t confirmed a date yet, the film is expected to release around December 16, 2025. Before that, viewers might get early access through Prime Video’s rental service from December 2, 2025 — perfect timing for a cosy holiday watch.
The film features Ayushmann as Alok Goyal and Rashmika as Tadaka — a pairing that audiences have described as “fresh and infectious.” The cast also includes stalwarts like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, Geeta Agrawal Sharma, and Faisal Malik.
In true MCHU fashion, Thamma connects to the wider universe with a surprise cameo by Varun Dhawan, tying it neatly back to Bhediya and Stree 2.
Talking about what drew him to the project, Ayushmann said, “In this film, the character I play transitions towards becoming a vampire, something I’ve never done before. I was very excited because I’m a big fan of this universe.” His transformation has been one of the highlights for fans, who’ve hailed his performance as both bold and entertaining.
With Thamma’s success, Maddock Films is already planning the next exciting chapters in its horror-comedy universe, including Bhediya 2 and Shakti Shalini, starring Saiyaara actor Aneet Padda.
