Squid Game fame actor, Oh Young Soo, continues to be entangled in legal trouble after he faced a molestation allegation. The actor is facing charges of forcible molestation.
However, the Criminal Division of the Suwon District Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Kwak Hyung Seop, has recently decided to hold the next hearing for Young Soo’s appeal on August 12, as reported by Allkpop.
The hearing was initially scheduled for June 3 but was postponed to June 10 due to the presidential election. However, the hearing was again rescheduled for August 1.
For the unversed, Young Soo is accused of hugging a victim on a walking trail in August 2017. The victim has also alleged that the actor told her, “Let me hug you once.” Additionally, the 80-year-old actor allegedly kissed the victim on her cheek in front in September of the same year.
The victim reported the case to the police in December 2021. Although it was initially dismissed, she objected, leading prosecutors to reopen the case. As a result, Oh Young Soo was indicted in 2022 without being detained.
Oh Young Soo acknowledged walking on the trail and visiting her home, but he debunked the accusations of molestation. The first trial court found the actor guilty in March 2023 and sentenced him to 8 months in prison and suspended him for 2 years.
The court said at the time, “The victim’s testimony is consistent and contains details that could only be described by someone who experienced the incident. Her diary entries and counselling records also support her claims.”
The South Korean actor Oh Young Soo rose to stardom with his role of Oh Il Nam aka 001 in Netflix’s Squid Game. He portrayed the mastermind behind the games in the thriller series. Young Soo also made history in 2022 after he became the first Korean actor to win Best Supporting Actor in Television at the Golden Globe Awards for his role in Squid Game.
