Aryan Khan to make big-screen directorial debut sans Shah Rukh Khan: Report

After making waves with his OTT directorial debut The Ba***ds of Bollywood, Aryan Khan is now ready to step into the theatrical space. The young filmmaker, who impressed audiences with his sharp storytelling and bold cinematic voice, is reportedly developing his first big-screen entertainer, slated to go on floors in 2026.

While details of the project remain tightly under wraps, a report by Pinkvilla confirms that Shah Rukh Khan will not play the lead role in this film. Instead, Aryan plans to helm a completely new story with a fresh cast.

A source close to the development told Pinkvilla, “Aryan wants to deliver a theatrical success and prove himself as a filmmaker before taking on the challenge of directing his superstar father, Shah Rukh Khan.”

The source further revealed that Aryan’s long-term goal is to earn that opportunity through merit rather than legacy. “His idea is to earn that opportunity through merit and let his work speak for itself. If all goes as planned, Aryan’s third directorial will feature SRK in the lead. The father-son duo has already locked the core idea, but the collaboration is expected to take shape only in 2027. For now, Aryan is focused on completing the script of his second feature, which will soon enter the casting stage.”

His debut series, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, produced under Red Chillies Entertainment, drew significant attention for its slick production design and edgy narrative. Even Shah Rukh Khan’s brief cameo in the show sparked an online frenzy.

However, sources also note that in the unpredictable world of cinema, plans can shift. There’s still a possibility that SRK and Aryan may collaborate sooner than expected. “There’s always the possibility that King Khan, eager to collaborate with his son, might fast-track their project, making it Aryan’s second film instead,” the source said.

Whenever it happens, the prospect of a Shah Rukh Khan–Aryan Khan collaboration is already being hailed as one of the most anticipated cinematic events in recent memory.
