Dulquer Salmaan’s latest film Kaantha has been enjoying a steady and promising run at the box office since its release.

The Tamil–Telugu period drama, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, has wrapped up its opening weekend on a high note, collecting an estimated Rs 13.22 crore India net within three days.

The movie made about Rs 4.35 crore on Friday, which was a respectable start. The Telugu and Tamil versions each contributed Rs 1.7 and 2.65 crore, respectively. Positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth helped the movie gain traction on Saturday, resulting in a notable 40% increase in revenue, reaching about Rs 5 crore.

Sunday continued the trend with another Rs 4.35 crore, as per early estimates, bringing the total weekend figure to Rs 13.22 crore — a solid performance for a regional drama built on storytelling rather than spectacle.

Tamil Nadu has emerged as Kaantha’s strongest market so far, recording an overall 26.70 per cent occupancy on Sunday.

Morning and night screenings remained consistent, but afternoon and evening performances fared better, reaching 31.40 and 31.16 percent, respectively.

The movie had an overall occupancy rate of 16.96% in the Telugu-speaking states. Even though it was lower than its Tamil counterpart, it showed a consistent upward trend throughout the day, with evening shows approaching 20%, indicating an increasing level of audience interest.

With a cast featuring Bhagyashri Borse, Rana Daggubati, Samuthirakani, and Bijesh Nagesh, Kaantha has been widely praised for its rich visuals, detailed production design, and period authenticity.

A part of review for Kaantha by Moneycontrol read, "Kaantha looks fantastic in terms of visuals and cinematography. Shreyaas Krishna, the cinematographer, employs a desaturated sepia color to make the locations look like they are from the 1950s. The soundtrack by Jakes Bejoy makes scenes with a lot of speech more stressful. The style is like that of a classic theater, with simple scenery that makes each fight more fun."

It further stated, "Dulquer Salmaan is great; his performance is a mix of charm, confidence, and fragility, which shows the differences in a star who is consumed with his own story. Bhagyashri Borse gives Kumari calm strength, and Rana Daggubati's over-the-top Inspector Devaraj adds a lot of drama to the last act."
