The passing of renowned actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar has left the world in shock and deep sorrow. Known for his patriotic films, which earned him the affectionate title of ‘Bharat Kumar,’ Manoj Kumar made an indelible mark on Indian cinema, inspiring generations with his work and dedication. As the news of his demise spreads, tributes have been pouring in from all corners.

Aamir Khan told Moneycontrol.com in a statement, "Manoj Kumar was not just an actor, and film-maker, he was an institution. I have learnt so much watching his films. His films were often based on important social themes which brought him really close to the common man. My heartfelt condolences to his family"

On X, Ajay Devgn posted a heartfelt tribute to the late legendary actor Manoj Kumar, sharing a picture and expressing his admiration. He said, "Manoj Kumar ji was not just a cinematic icon - he was a personal milestone in my family’s journey. He gave my father, Veeru Devgan, his very first break as an action director in Roti Kapda Aur Makaan. From there, their collaboration continued all the way to Kranti, creating moments that are now part of Indian cinema’s golden history."

He added, "Manoj ji’s films - Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, Shor, Kranti, they weren’t just films…they were national emotions. His creative genius, unwavering patriotism, and storytelling depth set a benchmark that very few have matched."

Ajay concluded, "As Indian cinema bids farewell to its Bharat Kumar - a storyteller, a patriot, and a legend. I also wish to say thank you for shaping my father’s journey and for inspiring countless storytellers like me.
Your legacy, Manoj ji, is eternal."


Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar took to X to remember the legendary actor. Sharing a picture of the late Manoj Kumar, Akshay wrote, "I grew up learning from him that there’s no emotion like love and pride for our country. And if we actors won’t take the lead in showing this emotion, who will? Such a fine person, and one of the biggest assets of our fraternity. RIP Manoj Sir. Om Shanti."

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar recently took to X to honour the late actor by sharing some nostalgic pictures, accompanied by a heartfelt message paying his respects, he mentioned, "I am saddened by the passing of the legendary actor & filmmaker, Manoj Kumar Sir, I had the privilege of interacting with him at many occasions , and he was truly an icon of Indian cinema. His storytelling & song picturizations in his films inspired national pride and will resonate for generations.  My deepest condolences to his family members & admirers. #OmShanti"

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit shared his grief, stating, "The legendary Dadasaheb Phalke award winner, our inspiration and the 'lion' of the Indian film industry, Manoj Kumar Ji is no more...It is a great loss to the industry, and the entire industry will miss him..."

Manoj Kumar, aged 87, passed away early this morning at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, succumbing to age-related health complications after being hospitalised for several weeks. His son, Kunal Goswami, confirmed the news, saying, "He has had health-related issues for a long time. It's the grace of God that he bid adieu to this world peacefully. His cremation will take place tomorrow..."

Manoj Kumar's contributions to Indian cinema earned him numerous accolades, including the National Film Award and the Padma Shri, which he was awarded by the Government of India in 1992. His legacy will undoubtedly live on through the countless patriotic roles and films he brought to life.
