Gearing up to enhance their exam scores, they must be in full swing answering the mock test and solving previous year's papers. However, considering that lakhs of students appear for exams every year, it is very important to thoroughly go through the important chapters to stay ahead of the competitive curve. It can immensely help in improving the chances of scoring well in the exam, in turn enhancing the possibility of getting a higher rank in the exam. Therefore, working towards securing a seat in leading medical colleges, let’s look at some tips for each subject for the NEET exam.
1) Subject-wise high weightage chapter
(i) Biology
Moving ahead, the biology section is divided into two parts, i.e, Botany and Zoology where 45 questions are asked from each.
For Botany, it is recommended that students focus on Genetics and Evolution, Ecology and Environment, Plant Physiology, Plant Diversity, Cell Structure & Function.
Likewise, for Zoology, the important chapters are Human Physiology, Human Reproduction & Reproductive Health, Animal Kingdom, Origin & Evolution and Human Health & Diseases.
(ii) Chemistry
Chemistry is divided into Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. In Inorganic Chemistry; Chemical Bonding, P-block, Coordination Compounds, Periodic Table & Periodicity in Properties and d-block & f-block elements are some of the high-weightage chapters.
For Organic Chemistry, students can focus on Aromatic Compounds, Alkyl Halide, Alcohol & Ether, Carbonyl Compounds, Hydrocarbons and Biomolecules.
At the same time, Mole Concept, Ionic Equilibrium, Chemical Kinetics, Solution & Colligative Properties, Thermodynamics and Thermochemistry hold significance in Physical Chemistry.
(iii) Physics
While revising for Physics, students can prioritize Thermodynamics, Magnetic effects of current & Magnetism, Current Electricity, Semiconductor Electronics and Optics
2) Strategy for each subject
Considering that Biology forms an important section in the NEET exam, it contributes to approximately 50% of the paper. As a result, during preparation students should focus on scoring well in the section which can enhance their chances of meeting the qualifying marks for the exam.
Likewise, for Chemistry, it is advisable to maintain notes for referring to formulas, reactions, and important facts.
For Physics, students should familiarize themselves with various units associated with physical quantities. They should keep their notes handy for revising the formulas and diagrams. Students should aim to improve their speed and accuracy to strengthen their preparation for the subject.
3) Last- minute tips for aspirants
- Embrace the power of revision:
Make a thorough revision plan to fortify the preparation. Make sure that Physics, Chemistry and Biology, all three are given equal attention by allocating specific time slots for each subject. Using faster revision techniques can enable reviewing important ideas, equations, and topics from notes maintained throughout the year. Using mind maps, self-tests, and flashcards can immensely help in remembering things already studied.
- Practice previous exam papers:
To improve the problem-solving and time-management skills during the exam, make it a priority to complete sample and previous year questions. Along with this, to familiarise oneself with the time limits and atmosphere of the exams, it is recommended to take practice tests in an exam-like environment. Simulating the exam framework can help with time management and reduce anxiety at the time of the final exam. Candidates should focus on examining their performance on these practice tests, which can help identify areas that require further work.
- Prioritise the overall health:
Feeling anxious during an exam is natural, but effective stress management can play a key role in overcoming anxiety. To stay focused and avoid fatigue, break up study sessions into small chunks and take breaks. In the crucial period before the exam, it is advisable to lead a healthy lifestyle. A balanced diet, consistent exercise and adequate sleep are essential for optimal cognitive performance. Try to drink plenty of water and include nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables and nuts in your diet to stay healthy. While students may not prioritize sleep, getting enough rest can significantly improve their concentration and memory for the exam.
