The incident took place a day after the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the answer key.

An 18-year-old NEET aspirant died by suicide in the Maharajpura police station area of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday night after checking the answer key to this year's examination.

The incident took place a day after the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the answer key. The NEET examination was held on May 4.

The victim had a brilliant academic record and had attempted NEET this year, according to SP Dharmaveer Yadav, Times of India reported.

When the answer keys were released on Tuesday, his family asked him about his marks. He checked and was disappointed to see a lower score than he expected, police said.

Later that evening, the family heard a gunshot. They ran to find that the boy had shot himself with the licenced pistol of his father, a retired Armyman, TOI reported.

He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. The victim had scored 95% in his Class 12 board exams.

The police collected the fingerprints on the gun and the same has been sent for the forensic examination. The police have not recovered any suicide note from the spot.
