Gopali Devi and her lover Deendayal were arrested by Jaipur police

A woman was arrested for allegedly killing her husband and burning his body to hide the evidence in Rajasthan’s Jaipur after he confronted her over her extra-marital affair. The woman's lover was also arrested for being involved in the crime.

The deceased has been identified as Dhannalal Saini.

The accused were captured in a CCTV while carrying the victim's body on a motorcycle to dispose off in a jungle. The footage has been widely shared on social media. They also tried to burn the body to get rid of evidence.

Gopali Devi, wife of Dhannalal Saini, had been in an affair with Deendayal Kushwaha for five years. She had lied to her husband about working in a factory, while Kushwaha worked at a clothes store.

Doubting his wife's claim, Saini, a vegetable seller, had followed her to the clothes store last Saturday to enquire what type of work she did. There, she found the two together. Infuriated, he confronted them, according to a report by NDTV.

The accused then took the victim to another shop on the floor above, where they hit him on his head with an iron pipe and strangled him with a rope.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP South) Digant Anand confirmed that the deceased’s wife, Gopali Devi, and her lover Deendayal were arrested.

“After the deceased objected to the affair, his wife and co-accused Deendayal hit the deceased on his head with an iron rod in rage, which resulted in the deceased losing consciousness and possibly dying on the spot," news agency ANI quoted Anand as saying.

The incident came to light on March 16 after the police were informed about a half-burnt body near a main road. The police also said that the remains of the body were put in a sack and dumped on the road.

In another similar incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, a woman and her lover were arrested for killing the woman’s husband – a Merchant Navy officer, chopping his body into pieces and stuffing it into a cement drum.
