Volkswagen India has inaugurated two Performance Centres in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to cater to the Golf GTI and Tiguan R-Line buyers. The carmaker plans to open 12 such facilities across the country.
With the new Performance Centres, Volkswagen is aiming to make retail experience more premium for its customers. The brand's overall network strength in Tamil Nadu now stands at 27 sales and 19 service touchpoints.
Volkswagen launched the Tiguan R-Line SUV in India in April, priced at Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Golf GTI hatchback was introduced in May with a price tag of Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom). Both models have taken the completely built-up (CBU) route to India.
The Tiguan R-Line employs a 2.0-litre TSI EVO petrol engine, which produces 204 PS of maximum power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine is clubbed with a 7-speed DSG transmission. The SUV comes with all-wheel drive capability, 4MOTION, as standard.
At the heart of the Golf GTI is a more powerful 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine, which generates 265 PS and 370 Nm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG. The car can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds.
"The recent launch of global icons like the Tiguan R-Line and Golf GTI, are now serving to the elevated Indian customer aspirations," said Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen India.
"In sync with the strategy of premium and progressive performance, we aim to enhance our retail experience through these Performance Centres. The new touchpoints will help us engage with customers and prospects, delivering a more progressive and premium purchase experience," he added.
Volkswagen said that the manpower at the Performance Centres is well equipped to understand the technical capabilities and lineage of the Golf GTI and the Tiguan R-Line, which are the two most expensive models of the carmaker in India.
Apart from the Golf GTI and the Tiguan R-Line, Volkswagen also sells the Virtus sedan and the Taigun SUV in India.
