Karnataka government’s ambitious Knowledge, Healthcare, Innovation, and Research (KHIR) City, is likely to come up between Dabaspet and Doddaballapur, around 60 km from Bengaluru.
Karnataka's Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil on August 20 chaired the first meeting of the advisory board for the KHIR City project.

Patil said that KHIR City will be developed on 2,000 acres of land, with the first phase covering 500 acres, which will be launched soon by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
During the meeting, advisory board members were presented with a detailed demonstration of the KHIR City project, prepared by the Bhumiputra Institute. "This is an unconventional project that will elevate Bengaluru's economy to new heights. The suggestions provided by the advisory committee members will be taken seriously," said Patil.

The state aims to attract Rs 40,000 crore in investments in healthcare, innovation and knowledge sectors, creating 80,000 jobs in the proposed KHIR City. While the launch of KHIR City was scheduled to August 23, it has been postponed to September-October.
Sources from the Industries Department clarified that the postponement is not related to the controversies surrounding the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam but rather due to some foreign delegates (investors and developers) expressing their inability to attend the event on short notice. “KHIR City as a visionary project designed to revolutionise healthcare, education, and technology on a global scale. There are also pan to expand the project to 5,000 acres in future. It will be a central hub for pioneering research, innovation, and high-quality healthcare,” said an official.
KHIR City will focus on key sectors such as future mobility, semiconductors and advanced materials, aerospace, defence and space technology, life sciences, and advanced manufacturing.

"The city will be equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including leading national and international universities, hospitals, research institutes, and startups, all supported by world-class social infrastructure designed to foster a thriving community of innovators and researchers," the official added.
The meeting saw virtual participation from several prominent advisory board members, including Dr. Devi Shetty, chairman of Narayana Health; Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw; Infosys board member Mohandas Pai; cardiologist Dr Vivek Jawali; Prashant Prakash, partner at Accel; Ranch Kimball, Trustee at Boston University, USA; Thomas Osha, executive vice president of Wexford Science & Technology; and Stephen Eckert, dean of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Austin.
