Karnataka cabinet on October 30 approved projects worth Rs 2,296 crore ahead of the upcoming Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) elections. The decision comes amid criticism over the deteriorating infrastructure in the country’s tech capital.

Speaking to reporters, HK Patil, Karnataka Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation, said administrative approval has been granted for the Greater Bengaluru Action Plan, which includes road and ward-level development works across five urban corporations under the jurisdiction of the GBA.

Under the capital support scheme for special infrastructure, the government will carry out asphalting of main and sub-main roads in these five corporations at an estimated cost of Rs 1,241.57 crore. Additionally, under the Chief Minister’s infrastructure development scheme, ward development and infrastructure improvement works will be undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 1,055 crore.

Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) 2.0

The cabinet has approved the establishment of eight Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) 2.0 under the Karnataka Startup Policy 2022–27, with a total outlay of Rs 80 crore (Rs 10 crore per incubator) over five years. The TBIs are proposed in Mysuru, Bagalkot, Shivamogga, Mangaluru, Dharwad, and Belagavi districts.

The scheme seeks to create innovation and entrepreneurship by helping tech startups and individuals progress from ideas to proof of concept, enabling the development of scalable technology solutions.

The cabinet also decided to fix land compensation at Rs 1.5 crore per acre for the Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) project in Bengaluru, to be implemented by Terra Pharma Biotechnologies.
