After initially releasing it in beta, Google has now rolled out the Android Auto 14.0 stable update to users globally. This new update introduces a major shift with the addition of Gemini Live for Android Auto-enabled cars, replacing Google Assistant. Moreover, the version 14.0 update also focuses on stability improvements and bug fixes.
Android Auto 14.0 update: Key featuresAs noted by 9to5Google, the main Android Auto 14.0 update comes with various bug fixes and adds basic stability improvements to Google’s in-car phone interface. Further, we get a new microphone icon, which swaps out the four-color design for a plain white one, which suggests that Google Assistant could be phased out in the near future.
This change shows a broader move to upgrade Android Auto-powered cars from Google Assistant to Gemini. However, Google has clarified that Google Assistant will remain functional on some older devices until later in the year. In the future, we can expect Gemini to work similarly to its mobile app implementation, as Gemini and Gemini Live on Android Auto will surface with a blue and purple hue at the bottom edge to respond to users’ queries and requests.
In addition to the integration of Gemini Live, the Android Auto 14 update includes expanded controls for vehicle temperature and AC. These new options allow users to set the temperature or turn off the AC directly from the Android Auto interface. The company is also testing a new maps app for Android Auto, with WeGo Maps already being supported in some regions.
Google has also announced that Android Auto 14 will require at least 2GB of RAM and Android 10 or later to run Gemini. The update is rolling out gradually, so Android Auto users can expect to receive it in a few days.
