Kavya Maran, a co-owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is mostly present when the franchise is in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL). It is rare, almost impossible, for cameraperson to pan the lenses towards her, capturing raw emotions, which instantly goes viral on social media. At times it also leads to becoming a meme, and Maran while speaking to Fortune India has finally addressed the same.
"Those are my raw emotions that you're seeing because my job has brought me to the point that I have to put myself out there. In Hyderabad, I can't do anything; I have to sit there. That's the only place I can sit. But even when I go to Ahmedabad or Chennai, and I'm sitting many feet away, somewhere in the box, the cameraman manages to find me. So, I understand how it becomes memes," she said.

Maran further explained what the franchise means for her and going by what she said, the animated reactions are understandable. The Orange Army is loaded with explosive names but the franchise didn't experience the highs in 2025 as they witnessed in 2024. This season the Orange Army endured a torrid run and managed six wins throughout the tournament. In comparison, the year before SRH had finished as the runners-up.
"When it comes to Sunrisers, I genuinely wear my heart on my sleeve. I think when you put your heart and soul into something, you naturally tend to get very personally attached to its successes and failures," said Maran.
Maran is also the ED and CEO of Sun TV Network. She is the daughter of Sun Group chairman Kalanithi Maran. Apart from the IPL, Maran also looks after Sunrisers Eastern Cape franchise, which takes part in South Africa's SA20 competition.
