From Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj: Top Places to Visit During Diwali 2025

As India prepares to glow brighter than ever for Diwali 2025, travelers are blending tradition with exploration. This year, the five days of Diwali — from Dhanteras (October 19, 2025) to Bhai Dooj (October 24, 2025) — fall right in the heart of India’s festive season, making it the perfect time for short getaways, spiritual retreats, or luxurious festive stays.

Here’s your curated travel calendar for each of the five auspicious days.

Day 1 – Dhanteras: Udaipur, Rajasthan

Start your Diwali journey with opulence. The City of Lakes sparkles even brighter during Dhanteras, when locals buy gold, silver, and brass items for prosperity. Shop at Hathi Pol Bazaar, enjoy a sunset boat ride at Lake Pichola, and dine by candlelight at a heritage haveli.

Day 2 – Naraka Chaturdashi (Chhoti Diwali): Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

Witness spirituality at its most radiant. On Chhoti Diwali, Varanasi’s ghats are lined with thousands of diyas reflecting on the Ganga. Attend the evening Ganga Aarti, explore local sweet shops for kaju katli and laddoos, and soak in divine energy.

Day 3 – Diwali: Jaipur, Rajasthan

For the main festival day, head to Jaipur — India’s “Pink City of Lights.” The markets glow with golden fairy lights, and the city’s landmarks, from Hawa Mahal to City Palace, are illuminated in grandeur. Shop for gemstones and handicrafts, and experience the traditional aarti at Govind Dev Ji Temple.

Day 4 – Govardhan Puja: Mathura & Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh

The birthplace of Lord Krishna celebrates Govardhan Puja with unmatched devotion. Locals create massive Annakoot food displays as offerings, and the temples echo with bhajans and dance. It’s a spiritual spectacle and cultural immersion rolled into one.

Day 5 – Bhai Dooj: Delhi or Agra

End the festive week with family and heartfelt bonding. Delhi’s bustling markets and rooftop cafés make it ideal for Bhai Dooj reunions. Alternatively, take a short trip to Agra — enjoy a serene sunrise at the Taj Mahal and indulge in festive sweets before heading home.

With Diwali falling in late October this year, expect pleasant weather across most of India. Book your stays early, especially in Rajasthan, Varanasi, and hill stations like Mussoorie or Coorg, which are fast becoming festive favorites.
