Ahmedabad: Kolkata Knight Riders player Mitchell Starc celebrates the wicket of Sunrisers Hyderabad's Shahbaz Ahmed during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 T20 cricket match

Sunrisers Hyderabad have maintained a strong performance trajectory since their inaugural title victory in 2016 up until 2020. The team secured playoff berths in every season from 2016 to 2020 and even clinched the runners-up position in the 2018 edition. However, their fortunes took a downturn in the last two seasons.

On the flip side, Kolkata Knight Riders tasted success by lifting the trophy in 2012 and 2014 but struggled to replicate their triumph in subsequent years. Despite this, they managed to reach the finals of IPL 2021, where they faced defeat against CSK. Notably, in IPL 2023, SRH claimed victory in Kolkata while KKR emerged triumphant in Hyderabad during their league encounters.

Head to Head:

KKR holds the edge in the historical rivalry between the two teams. Out of their 26 IPL encounters, KKR emerged victorious in 17 matches, while SRH secured wins in the remaining 9.

Top Performers of All Time:

David Warner leads the charts in runs scored (619) in clashes between the two sides, followed by Nitish Rana (492) and Manish Pandey (438). Warner's standout performance includes a remarkable century against KKR in IPL 2017. Among the bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads with the most wickets (24), trailed by Andre Russell (19), and Rashid Khan and Umesh Yadav with 12 wickets each.

Previous Meeting between Hyderabad and Kolkata:

The latest showdown between the two teams occurred in Match No. 3 of IPL 2024 in Kolkata, where the Knight Riders secured a narrow four-run victory over the Orange Army. Despite SRH's Henrich Klassen's impressive 63 off 29 and Abhishek Sharma's contribution of 32 off 19 balls, KKR's Andre Russell's blistering 64* off 25, supported by Phil Salt's 54, proved decisive. SRH faltered in the chase and were restricted to 204/7. KKR's bowlers, Harshit Rana, Andre Russell, and Sunil Narine, shone as they picked up 3, 2, and 1 wickets respectively.
