Pandya brothers’ lifelong bond with childhood coach Jitendra Singh

The Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal, are celebrated in Indian cricket for their fierce competitiveness and never-say-die spirit on the field. Known for their ability to turn games around, the duo has built a reputation as warriors who thrive in high-pressure situations. Yet, away from the spotlight, there exists a different side to their personalities — one that is deeply rooted in gratitude, humility, and loyalty toward those who shaped their journey.

At the heart of this story is their childhood coach, Jitendra Singh, a man who played a defining role in nurturing their raw talent during the early days in Baroda. Despite their meteoric rise, both brothers have remained unwaveringly committed to supporting him, treating him as a member of their family rather than just a coach. Over the years, the Pandyas have extended financial and personal assistance amounting to nearly ₹70–80 lakh, a reflection of the profound respect and love they share for Singh.

In an interaction with Times of India, Jitendra recalled several instances where Hardik and Krunal went far beyond the conventional coach-player relationship. He revealed that Hardik recently gifted him a car, while also recounting how the brothers ensured that his sisters’ weddings were conducted smoothly, stepping in with monetary assistance when needed. Hardik, he said, would often insist, “Your sister is my sister. Just let me know whenever the wedding gets fixed.”

Their generosity, however, did not begin after achieving fame. Jitendra narrated how Hardik’s care became evident as early as 2015, when the all-rounder broke into the IPL with Mumbai Indians. At a time when Singh’s mother fell critically ill, Hardik offered him his entire earnings to cover medical expenses. Later, after his debut for India in Australia, Hardik surprised his mentor by gifting him a car worth ₹5–6 lakh, saying it was for his safety so that he wouldn’t have to travel by bike.

Krunal too followed suit, contributing financially on several occasions, including transferring funds to help Singh purchase another car years later.

The bond extends well beyond financial gestures. On Teacher’s Day in 2017, Hardik penned a heartfelt message on social media, calling Jitendra the man who stood by him through all ups and downs, promising that he would “always have his back”. Such public acknowledgment only reinforced what had been privately evident through their constant support.

From paying for Singh’s personal needs to ensuring he was looked after during their own weddings, the Pandya brothers have consistently gone out of their way to express gratitude. Singh noted that even his clothing and personal items have often been gifted by the duo, gestures that he cherishes deeply given his modest background.

For many, the Pandya brothers are stylish, aggressive, and fiercely competitive. But for their coach, they remain grounded individuals who have never forgotten their roots.
