India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal struck his seventh Test hundred and his second against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Friday. On Day 1 of the second Test, India made the West Indies work hard thanks to Jaiswal's century in just 145 balls and his century partnership with B Sai Sudharsan.

Only three men in the history of Test cricket have scored more centuries than Yashasvi Jaiswal before turning 24. Don Bradman scored 12 centuries in 19 Tests, Sachin Tendulkar struck 11 tons in 53 Tests and Garry Sobers hit 9 hundreds in 32 Tests. Kane Williamson, Alastiar Cook, Graeme Smith, and Javed Miandad all had seven hundreds each.

Not just that, Jaiswal is just the second batter to hit seven Test hundreds as an opener before turning 24 after former South Africa captain Graeme Smith.

On Day 1, after lunch, Jaiswal and Sudharsan made the most of some mediocre bowling from the West Indies. India scored 94 runs in 28 overs for one wicket in the opening session, when the visitors had been miserly. In 78 balls, Jaiswal reached 40, while in 36 balls, Sudharsan reached 16. KL Rahul, who was dismissed by Jomel Warrican after scoring 38 in 54 balls, shared the opening 58-run partnership with Jaiswal.

But when play resumed after lunch, it was a different story. India scored 52 runs in the first 10 overs of the second session after the West Indies gave up at least one boundary per over in the first 40 minutes.

In the first hour of the session, India managed to reach 81 runs. Jaiswal's first century in Test cricket came at Windsor Park in Dominica, and this is his second against the West Indies. Along with then-captain Rohit Sharma, he had formed a 229-run opening partnership, scoring 171 off 387 balls in that innings.
