Major technology companies cut more than 120,000 jobs in 2025, marking another year of workforce reductions across the global tech industry. The layoffs reflect a combination of cost control measures, restructuring, and a sharper focus on artificial intelligence-led transformation. From chipmakers and IT services firms to cloud and telecom companies, job cuts were spread across sectors, highlighting structural shifts rather than short-term slowdowns.

Intel recorded the largest workforce reduction of the year. The semiconductor giant cut around 24,000 roles as part of efforts to stabilise finances and fund its transition into a foundry-focused business model. Tata Consultancy Services followed with roughly 20,000 job cuts, driven by skill mismatches and increased adoption of AI-led delivery models. Verizon reduced close to 15,000 positions as it restructured operations to lower costs.

Amazon continued downsizing its corporate workforce, eliminating about 14,000 management and administrative roles to flatten organisational layers. Dell Technologies cut around 12,000 jobs, extending its cost management drive while pivoting towards AI-optimised hardware and enterprise services.

Accenture and SAP also carried out large-scale layoffs. Accenture reduced its headcount by nearly 11,000 as client demand shifted toward generative AI projects. SAP announced plans to cut 10,000 roles to realign resources around cloud computing and business AI.

Microsoft trimmed around 9,000 jobs across divisions including gaming and Azure, prioritising long-term AI infrastructure investments. Toshiba reduced 5,000 roles following its post-privatisation restructuring, while Cisco closed out the top ten with 4,250 layoffs as it redirected spending toward cybersecurity and AI development.

Together, these layoffs underline how efficiency drives and AI integration continue to reshape the global tech workforce.
