This sacred fast is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and it is believed that on this day, Lord Vishnu changes His sleeping position while resting on Sheshnag during Chaturmas. The vrat katha narrates how Lord Vishnu incarnated as Vamana to humble King Bali, who had become arrogant with his powers. Lord Vamana, in dwarf form, asked for three steps of land. With two steps, He covered the entire universe, and with the third, He placed His foot on Bali’s head, sending him to the netherworld. This story reminds devotees of humility, faith, and surrender to the Lord’s will.

• Devotees begin the fast from sunrise and avoid grains, pulses, and certain vegetables.
• Only fruits, milk, and vrat-friendly food are consumed.
• Chanting Vishnu Sahasranama, reciting Bhagavad Gita, and offering Tulsi leaves are considered highly auspicious.
• Night vigil (Jagran) and devotional songs in praise of Lord Vishnu bring immense blessings.
• Parana (breaking the fast) is done on the next day after Hari Vasara ends.
