A Swiss tourist who went to an upscale restaurant in Sardinia did a very unexpected thing. Well, she ordered a lobster for $200, which is Rs 16,636 approximately, and released it back into the sea. A video of the same has gone viral online and has prompted an array of reactions from social media users.

The now-viral video was shared on X by a user named Bowner. The woman ordered a lobster and requested it to be served alive. According to The Telegraph and the clip, the woman then stroked the crustacean before releasing it into the sea.

As per The Telegraph, Gente Di Mare restaurant, serves lobsters prepared in dishes such as spaghetti or alla Catalana, which is made by boiling the crustacean and cooking it in a sauce made of tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, black pepper and salt. However, the tourist noticed a water tank with the lobsters near the entrance and requested one to be delivered alive to her table.

"The lady came into our restaurant and was straightaway struck by the aquarium that we have at the entrance," the restaurant's owner Antonio Fasolino, told The Telegraph.

"She asked me if she could free the lobster and release it into the sea. At first I thought she was joking, but then I saw she was serious. I said, 'for me that's no problem!'" he further said.

The lobster was served to the woman in a bucket. She went outside the restaurant with her husband, tenderly stroked the crustacean and placed it in the waters of Golfo Aranci, a bay located in the northern part of Sardinia. The lobster then swam away.

The video of the same grabbed a lot of eyeballs and divided netizens. While some users hailed the woman for her gesture, others thought that she was seeking attention.

“Good she made the connection and had the empathy to not let the animal boil to death and the strength to go against peer pressure and set the animal free. Hope the future belongs to people like this,” a user wrote.

A user questioned, “Did she want attention or she really cared?”

“Nice gesture but I think she was better off just eating it. Lobsters don't live near the coast and so pretty sure it must be dead by now,” someone remarked.

Another user commented, “One lucky lobster and an angel in disguise who set it free.”

“Why didn't she go to a less swanky restaurant and release multiple lobster?” a person chimed in.
