The recently released Bloomberg Billionaires Index has shed light on the immense wealth of the world’s richest individuals, revealing two remarkable insights. First, the combined net worth of the top two billionaires is an astonishing $700 billion. Second, the wealth disparity at the summit of global riches is stark, with a nearly $200 billion difference between the first and second positions.
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk continues to dominate the index, becoming the first individual to surpass $400 billion in net worth. As of December 14, 2024, Musk’s fortune is valued at $442 billion, cementing his position as the world’s wealthiest person. His financial trajectory has seen a dramatic recovery since late 2022, when his net worth plummeted by over $200 billion.
Musk’s wealth has recently surged, notably after the election victory of Donald Trump last month, for whom Musk served as a prominent donor and advocate.
In the second spot is Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, with a net worth of $248 billion. Bezos has seen a remarkable addition of $72.1 billion to his fortune since the start of 2024.
Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg ranks third on the Bloomberg Index with a net worth of $224 billion as of December 12, 2024. Zuckerberg’s wealth saw a one-day spike of $4.58 billion, bringing his total financial growth in 2024 to an impressive $95.4 billion.
The rest of the top billionaires include notable figures across a variety of industries:
Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, with a net worth of $195 billion.
Bernard Arnault, chairman of luxury goods giant LVMH, valued at $181 billion.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin, co-founders of Google, holding $171 billion and $161 billion, respectively.
Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, at $165 billion.
Steve Ballmer, former Microsoft CEO, with $156 billion.
Warren Buffett, legendary investor and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, rounds out the top ranks with $143 billion.
The figures underscore the growing wealth disparity among the global elite, with Musk alone holding nearly double the fortune of Bezos.
