The Nano Banana saree trend has taken over Instagram, with people using Google’s Gemini AI to turn regular selfies into glamorous retro-style portraits. The edits, with chiffon sarees, glowing light and dramatic poses, look straight out of a 90s Bollywood movie. But one user’s experience has raised eyebrows about how safe these AI tools really are.

An Instagram user named Jhalakbhawani tried the trend by uploading a picture of herself in a green suit. Gemini transformed it into a beautiful saree portrait, and she even shared it online. At first, everything looked fine, but on a closer look she spotted something unusual. The AI image showed a mole on her left hand. She does have a mole there in real life, but it wasn’t visible in the original photo she had uploaded.

That detail left her disturbed. In her post, she warned followers to be careful while using AI platforms, saying, “Whatever you upload on social media or AI platforms, make sure you stay safe.”

Her experience has sparked a wider discussion about how unpredictable AI can be. Experts say that Gemini creates images by learning from massive datasets and sometimes throws in details that feel eerily accurate. While Google has added safety tools like invisible watermarks and metadata to label AI images, specialists warn that these steps are not enough to guarantee privacy.

People who want to try trends like Nano Banana are advised to avoid uploading very personal photos, double-check the edits before posting, and read how platforms handle stored data.

The saree edits may look glamorous and fun, but Jhalak’s story is a reminder that AI is still unpredictable. Before handing over personal pictures to these tools, it might be worth pausing to think twice.
