In the world of cricket, where young talents dream of wearing the blue jersey, and in the world of UPSC, where lakhs aspire to serve the nation, one man achieved both. Meet Amay Khurasiya, the only international cricketer who also cracked the UPSC exam.
Born in 1972 in Madhya Pradesh, Amay's journey began on the cricket field. He made his first-class debut at just 17, showcasing his talent early. But what set him apart was not just his cricketing skills, it was his dedication to education and service.
While pursuing cricket, Amay also prepared for the UPSC exam, one of the toughest in India. And he cleared it, even before he made his debut for Team India.
In 1999, Amay finally donned the Indian jersey, playing alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in the Pepsi Cup and impressed with a quickfire 57 off 45 balls. His performance earned him a spot in the 1999 World Cup squad, though he didn’t get a chance to play.
Amay’s international career, though short, was memorable. He played 12 ODIs, scoring 149 runs. But cricket wasn’t his only passion. After retiring from first-class cricket in 2007, he transitioned into a new role, serving as an Inspector in the Indian Customs & Central Excise Department.
But he never left cricket entirely. Today, he nurtures young talents, coaching players like Rajat Patidar (RCB) and Avesh Khan, passing on his experience to the next generation.
