The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP), commonly known as the UP Board, has announced the schedule for the High School (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12) pre-board examinations. Slated to be held from January 8 to January 21, 2026, these tests serve as a vital rehearsal for students before the main board exams.

The pre-board exams are mandated for all government-aided, unaided, and private schools affiliated with the UP Board across the state. According to the board’s directive, the examinations must be conducted under strict, standardised conditions to simulate the actual board exam environment, providing students with essential practice in time management and paper-solving strategy.

Education authorities emphasize that the pre-board examination is not merely a formality but a critical diagnostic assessment. It is designed to help students identify subject-specific strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to refine their preparation in the weeks leading up to the main board exams.

In addition to the written tests, the board has instructed schools to concurrently complete and upload marks for internal assessments and practical examinations on the designated portal within the stipulated timeframe. This integrated approach ensures that all evaluative components are completed well before the main examinations, keeping the academic calendar on track.

Important Guidelines

The UP Board has issued stringent instructions to school principals to maintain the sanctity and seriousness of the pre-board process. Key directives include:

  • Ensuring 100% student participation in the pre-board exams.
  • Conducting the examinations with the same discipline and vigilance as the main board exams.
  • Guaranteeing thorough evaluation of answer sheets followed by detailed feedback sessions where students are informed of their errors.

"No negligence in the conduct of these exams will be tolerated,” the board’s communiqué stated. “The goal is to provide a genuine exam experience that prepares students mentally and academically for the finals."

With the release of the schedule, academic activities in schools across Uttar Pradesh have intensified. Teachers are conducting revision classes and mock tests, while students are putting the final touches on their syllabus revision.

The UP Board’s main examinations for Class 10 and 12 are typically held in February and March. The pre-board exams, therefore, provide a crucial month-long window for performance analysis and improvement, making them an indispensable part of the board examination ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.
