Days after facing criticism for suggesting that diet played a role in his wife’s recovery from cancer, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu shared the detailed diet plan that, according to him, complemented her medical treatment. Sidhu’s wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer but is now clinically cancer-free following comprehensive treatment and a strict dietary regimen.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sidhu emphasised that the diet plan was developed in consultation with doctors and combined principles of Ayurveda with modern medical advice. He linked the diet to research, including the Nobel Prize-winning discoveries of Yoshinori Ohsumi on autophagy, and acknowledged its contribution to her recovery process.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu addressed the role of diet in her recovery, stating: "I always believed that cancer treatment works best when complemented by a proper diet. The diet supported me during times of swelling, and the Ayurvedic regimen has been a great help. Maintaining a healthy routine, including regular exercise, is essential. Above all, it’s crucial to avoid food adulteration for better health."
Sidhu detailed his wife’s dietary regimen, which aimed to support her recovery alongside surgeries, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy.

Key elements included:
Morning Routine: Warm lemon water with a spoonful of apple cider vinegar, raw garlic, raw turmeric, and neem leaves.
Intermittent Fasting: A fasting period of 12 to 17 hours after dinner, with the first meal at 10 a.m.
Hydration: High-pH alkaline water instead of regular drinking water. Herbal tea made from cardamom, basil, mint, ginger, and cinnamon replaced regular tea.
Fresh fruits like blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, pomegranates, and juices made from beetroot, amla, and carrots.
Healthy snacks, including walnuts, Brazil nuts or almonds, and makhanas, alongside avocado or coconut cream.
Vegetables such as cucumber, pineapple, bottle gourd, and pumpkin featured prominently.
Night jasmine or soursop leaves were consumed daily.
Salads amounting to 1% of her body weight helped in weight management.
Cooked Foods: Limited to lentils, rajma, and chana, while avoiding refined carbohydrates, refined sugar, oils, dairy products, and packaged foods.
Desserts: Occasional consumption of dates.
Sidhu also quoted his wife’s oncologist, who confirmed that her PET scans were negative, indicating the absence of cancer in her body. The doctor credited the diet as a supportive measure for her recovery.
"Her recovery has taken a 360-degree turn," the oncologist stated, acknowledging the diet’s role in managing post-treatment side effects.
The dietary plan has reignited debates about the role of nutrition in cancer recovery, with experts cautioning against over-reliance on non-medical interventions.
