Matt LeBlanc has paid an emotional tribute to his Friends co-star Matthew Perry, who died unexpectedly last month. On Tuesday, LeBlanc, 56, shared a slideshow of images from Friends, the hugely popular sitcom on which he co-starred with Perry for 10 seasons.
LeBlanc played the role of Joey Tribbiani on the show, who was roommate to Perry’s Chandler Bing. The show turned the six lead cast members into household names. With his Instagram post, LeBlanc has become the first of the core cast of Friends to pay a solo tribute to Matthew Perry.
“I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never,” he continued. “Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love,” wrote LeBlanc, possibly in reference to Perry’s well-documented struggles with alcoholism.
He ended his tribute with a joke: “And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me.”
Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home on October 28. He was 54. By the time first responders arrived at the scene, he was already dead.
According to his death certificate which was released Tuesday, the same day as LeBlanc’s tribute, Matthew Perry died at 4:17 pm on October 28, 2023. His funeral was attended by his Friends co-stars – Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.
