Actor Courteney Cox spoke up for the first time over two weeks after her “Friends” co-star Matthew Perry's death last month. Paying an emotional tribute to her on-screen love interest and husband of over a decade, Cox also shared an iconic scene from the show in which their characters' romantic relationship was first revealed.
“I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day,” she wrote in the poignant post on Instagram.
Her post included footage from after the scene had ended, in which Courteney Cox - in bed with Perry in London - cracks a racy joke for the live studio audience.
"In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind," she wrote.
Describing the scene, she said how their "Friends" characters, Chandler and Monica, were supposed to have a one night fling in London but thanks to the rousing reaction from viewers, the makers of the show decided to make it the beginning of their love story.
Actor Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey, on "Friends", also paid an emotional tribute to Perry, saying it was "an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend". LeBlack shared photos of the famous Joey-Chandler moments from the sitcom.
"Matthew, it is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life," he wrote on Instagram, ending the post with a classic Matt LeBlanc joke on Perry owing him $20.
Matthew Perry was found unconscious in a hot tub at his house in Los Angeles last month by first responders, who were unable to revive him.
The cause of Perry's death is not yet known. An initial post-mortem examination was inconclusive and the results of toxicology tests have not yet been released.
Perry's five costars - Cox, LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow - released a joint statement two days after his passing.
"We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just castmates. We are a family," they said.
"There is so much to say, but right now we're going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able," they added at the time.
The five reportedly all attended Perry's private funeral in Los Angeles earlier this month.
