'Spitting blood from mouth, bloody nose': Bengaluru man flags health impact of Delhi-NCR’s toxic air

The user also expressed a desire to return home, stating, 'I badly want to return to Bengaluru.' He explained that he chose not to share the post in Delhi-focused online communities, writing, 'I can’t post this in those NCR subs, it would only get negative replies, better to post here and appreciate Bengaluru than there.'

The account prompted a range of responses from other users, with several debating air quality conditions across Indian cities.

A Bengaluru-based man described experiencing severe health issues during a recent stay in Delhi NCR, attributing his symptoms to the region’s air quality in a post shared on Reddit. The account, which gained traction on the platform, outlined his physical condition after spending nearly three weeks in the capital region to attend a wedding.

In the post, the user stated that he had been in Delhi NCRfor around 20 days and began noticing troubling symptoms shortly after arriving. “I am here in Delhi NCR for a wedding for the last 20 days and I am spitting blood from mouth and when I blow my nose I get blood, I mean a lot of bloody phlegm,” he wrote.

He added that he developed a cold on the day he arrived, which gradually worsened over time. “Never have I seen so much blood from my nose in my life so far,” the post said.

Describing his day-to-day experience outdoors, the man said that exposure to the air aggravated his condition. “Going out here in NCR is like breathing gas and I come home with runny nose and blood again just when I thought it was over,” he wrote.

The user also expressed a desire to return home, stating, “I badly want to return to Bengaluru.” He explained that he chose not to share the post in Delhi-focused online communities, writing, “I can’t post this in those NCR subs, it would only get negative replies, better to post here and appreciate Bengaluru than there.”

The post was shared under the title, “I miss Bengaluru and its air quality.”

The account prompted a range of responses from other users, with several debating air quality conditions across Indian cities. One user questioned the comparison, writing, “For real? Bengaluru’s AQI is also not good. People around me are coughing and experiencing asthma-like symptoms because of smog. It may not be as bad as Delhi, but we are not much better here.”

Another commenter added, “Compared to Delhi, Bengaluru may seem better, but in reality, the air quality in the city has been quite dismal over the past few days.”

Some users shared personal reflections linked to living away from home. “As someone from Bengaluru living in Delhi, I really miss my hometown,” one person wrote.

Others recounted similar health-related experiences during visits to northern India. “I experienced the same symptoms, but only after a week in Delhi and Agra. I suffered a severe throat infection that took two weeks to recover from after returning to Bengaluru,” a user commented.

Several responses were brief but sympathetic. “That’s really sad to know,” one user wrote. Another added, “When you live in Bengaluru, you do not realise the value of its weather. Visit any other Indian city and you will immediately notice the difference.”

"Would you prefer Delhi’s 300+ AQI throughout the year, and 500+ for 4 bloody months, or Bangalore’s 150 or so for a few weeks and 50-100 rest of the year? Not even tier 2-3 towns offer this luxury. Bangalore for all its problems, does have the best weather and air quality amongst all metros and we should call it out and be grateful for that," a user added.

A user even called Delhi a concentration camp and wrote, "Delhi is an open air concentration camp."
