Next Stage: SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam (Expected in 3rd week of January 2026)

Understanding Minimum Qualifying Marks and Cut-off

Qualifying for Tier 2 depends on two factors: first, achieving the minimum qualifying marks, and second, meeting or exceeding the category-wise cut-off marks, which were also released on December 18.

The minimum qualifying percentages for Tier 1 are as follows:

  • General (UR) candidates: 30%
  • OBC and EWS candidates: 25%
  • SC/ST/Other categories: 20%

The cut-off marks are the minimum scores required to be shortlisted for Tier 2 and are typically higher than the qualifying marks. They vary each year based on factors like vacancies, exam difficulty, and the number of candidates.

If your roll number appears in the merit list, your journey is only half complete. Your focus must now shift to the SSC CGL Tier 2 examination. This exam is tentatively scheduled for the third week of January 2026.

Unlike Tier 1, Tier 2 is a more advanced and specialized examination that evaluates candidates in separate papers. The final selection for the 14,582 government posts is based on the combined performance in both Tier 1 and Tier 2.
