Mamaearth co-founder Ghazal Alagh said on Friday that founders of companies such as Infosys and LinkedIn did not believe in the concept of work-life balance and added that she believed work-life balance was created and not found.
Writing on LinkedIn on Friday, Alagh said that work-life balance varied from individual to individual and it was important to let others define work-life balance on their own terms.
"I bet you don’t know what’s common among the founders of Infosys, LinkedIn, Netflix, and Reddit."
"They all believe that work-life balance does not exist for people building businesses. However, I think the definition of work-life balance is misunderstood," she wrote on the social networking platform.
Alagh went on to explain how work-life balance differed and added that the debate would end when others chose what matters most to them at any given point in time.
"Some might choose to balance it on a day-to-day basis. Someone else can choose to balance over a week by stretching on weekdays and chilling on weekends. Others can choose to balance it over a decade where they stretch for 7 years and take a sabbatical for 3 years."
"The key lies in letting people define work-life balance on their own terms. This debate ends when people can choose what matters most to them at any given time," she wrote.
Alagh's post saw many user comments, many of whom agreed with her views on work-life balance.
"Totally agree and well said. Work-life balance purely depends on one's needs and wants and can change over time. When companies give flexibility and autonomy to their people and support the definition of work-life per their needs, that's truly a company to admire," one user wrote.
"I completely agree that work-life balance is subjective and varies from person to person. For me, it's about finding a rhythm that allows me to pursue my career goals while also prioritising my personal life and relationships. It's not always easy, but being intentional and flexible helps me maintain a healthy balance," another user wrote.
