Ferns N Petals, one of India’s leading online gift stores, has released its 2023 report as the year comes to a close. “This year has been a testament to the spirit of gifting, and at FNP, we've been privileged to play a role in countless heart-warming moments,” said Vikaas Gutgutia, Founder and Managing Director FNP.

The ‘How India Gifted 2023’ report by Ferns N Petals provides insights into the gifting habits of Indians. Take a look at some highlights:

Roses are red (and very popular)

FNP sold an impressive 11.5 million stems of roses in 2023. This translates to 23 roses sent every minute. All in all, the company delivered 15 million flowers to people across India.

Roses (of all colours) were clearly the flowers of choice for Indians, followed by pink carnations, purple and blue orchids, white carnations, yellow gerberas and white lilies.

Customers from Mumbai, Delhi and Chandigarh ordered the most number of flowers. However, potted plants emerged as the gift of choice for Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

Cakes galore

Cakes took the second spot as the most favored gifting category. This year, FNP sold over 7 million cakes, averaging a remarkable 11 cakes delivered per minute.

The cities of Patna, Ranchi, and Bhubaneshwar embraced the sweetness, with a whopping 40% of gifts comprising cakes and chocolates.

However, consumers also made more conscious decisions when it came to gifting. The gift hampers category saw a jump of 60% since last year with healthy snacking and cosmetic hampers being the most preferred.

The sustainable gifting hamper category saw a 15% surge, with plantable rakhis, upcycled plant pots; greeting cards and bookmarks made of seed paper, upcycled fashion accessories and gifts of salvaged metals seeing a rise in popularity this year.

“The average transaction value for gifts increased by 15% this year indicating a willingness among consumers to spend on thoughtful presents,” FNP said.

Smartphones and gifting

FNP also gave fascinating insights into how consumers’ spending habits tied with their smartphone models.

Consumers who own an iPhone spend between Rs 1800-Rs 2000, the portal revealed in its 2023 report. Meanwhile, Samsung and One plus users spend on Rs 1500 on an average.

At the end came Redmi and Xiomi owners, who on an average spend Rs 1000 on gifts.

Some interesting facts

On Valentine’s Day, one customer used Ferns N Petals to send 150 gifts to the same recipient.

On Karwa Chauth, a husband gifted 20 gifts to his wife.

On Diwali, a patron sent a staggering 350 gift items to his friends and family.
