Bengaluru has witnessed a spurt in cold and cough cases over the past month with doctors cautioning citizens not to take it lightly. A senior cardiologist from Kauvery Hospital also shared how the viral attack needs urgent attention and may also lead to acute bronchitis.

"This one cold cough virus wave in Bengaluru is very severe," Dr Deepak Krishnamurthy, who has been battling the virus himself, wrote on X. "I coughed so much in the night and had to take nebulisations at midnight, which I've never done before. Take care, people. My colleagues tell me that many have had acute bronchitis during the course of this virus."

Dr Krishnamurthy also said that his family too was suffering from the viral wave but he faced the brunt of it. "My son had a very mild bout, wife had a moderate severity infection. Mine is the severest," he said adding that he had tested negative for Covid and that he was feeling better on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, virologists have highlighted an increase in mutations of viruses.

Indian Medical Association's national president, Dr RV Asokan told The New Indian Express that there is no more common cold and cough now. “We do not have ordinary cold anymore. Now do not follow the old method of ‘stay and wait for three days and it will go’. If you have cold and cough, visit the doctor on the first day itself and undergo proper treatment,” he said.

According to the report, doctors have warned of cases where patients look like they are suffering from common cold and cough, but a thorough examination reveals that they are suffering from viral pneumonia or the lungs are severely damaged.
