A US-based CEO has ignited a firestorm of criticism after firing 99 employees in one sweep for missing a meeting – on Slack. A Reddit user, claiming to be a recently hired intern at the company, shared a screenshot of the CEO’s explosive Slack message that has since gone viral on social media.
The company, reportedly a marketplace for musical instruments, saw its workforce of 111 slashed to just 11 after the CEO, identified only as Baldvin, delivered an angry tirade in the company’s Slack channel. The intern revealed that nearly the whole team was terminated just an hour after they started at the job.
In the leaked screenshot, Baldvin accused the employees of failing to meet their contractual obligations.
“For those of you who did not show up to the meeting this morning, consider this your official notice: you’re all fired,” the CEO wrote.
He elaborated, saying, “You failed to do what you agreed to, you failed to complete your part of the contract, and you failed to show up to the meetings you were supposed to attend and work for. I will cancel all agreements between us. Please return anything you have, sign out of all accounts, and remove yourself from this Slack immediately.”
Baldvin claimed that their absence reflected a lack of seriousness about the opportunities provided by the company. “Out of 110 people, only 11 were present this morning. Those 11 get to stay. The rest of you are terminated,” he wrote, concluding with a harsh directive: “Get the f*** out of my business right now.”

One commenter wrote, “I assume the CEO failed to inform the team about that meeting. I cannot believe that 99 people will fail to attend a meeting if they got informed.”
Others pointed to potential financial troubles within the company. “The company is probably neck-deep in debt,” another commenter suggested, indicating that could be the actual reason for the mass firings.
The incident also triggered personal anecdotes of poor leadership in the workplace. One user shared, “I once had the CEO of my company message me via Teams on a Friday at 7 pm (my shift ends at 5 pm). When I came in on Monday, I had five messages stretched across the weekend about how I’m not a team player.”
The post has reignited conversations about toxic leadership and workplace culture, with many calling for accountability in how companies handle employee relations.
