A disturbing video doing the rounds on social media has reignited concerns over women's safety in Bengaluru after three women alleged they were chased by a group of men near the popular Rameshwaram Cafe in JP Nagar.
In the video, one of the women recounts the incident, describing how the men initially followed them on foot and later pursued them in a car after the women boarded a Rapido auto. “They are following us now… just before our Rapido came, they pulled up and stopped their car right in front of us,” she says. “We tried to talk to the auto driver, but he didn’t give a damn.”
The women said they were left “shaken, scared and traumatised” by the experience, which occurred in broad daylight. They eventually lost the men in traffic, but the incident has sparked widespread outrage online.
What has further fuelled public anger is the reaction from some men in the comment sections, who appeared to blame the victims. “Trauma for girls and ‘just some fun’ for guys,” wrote user Yishita Naidu, echoing the sentiment of many who condemned the trivialisation of such harassment.
Others offered practical advice for women in similar situations. “Try to stay in a populated area, take a circular path to see if they are still following… go straight to the police station,” suggested user Bishwa Nath.
The video has prompted renewed calls for better public safety measures and more responsive support systems for women. “Women will literally share their experience about being harassed and stalked and some men will still find a way to blame them,” wrote Instagram user @livinnit_19.
As of now, there is no official statement from local authorities regarding the incident.
