Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on June 23, penned an emotional letter to the people of Wayanad, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support during his tenure as their representative in the Lok Sabha. Rahul, who won from both Wayanad and Rae Bareli constituencies in the 18th Lok Sabha elections, is relinquishing Wayanad as per electoral norms.
"I was a stranger to you and yet you believed in me. You embraced me with unbridled love and affection. It didn't matter which political formation you supported, it didn't matter which community you were from or which religion you believed in or which language you spoke," Rahul reflected in his letter.
The Congress shared the letter on microblogging site X.
"Dear sisters and brothers of Wayanad,The first time I visited you I came asking for your support. I was a stranger to you and yet you believed in me.
It was truly a joy and an honour to be your voice in Parliament."

He acknowledged the protection and solace he found in the face of relentless criticism, attributing it to the people of Wayanad who stood by him unconditionally. Rahul expressed confidence in his sister, Priyanka Gandhi, who is set to contest from Wayanad in the upcoming bypoll.
"When I faced abuse day after day, your unconditional love protected me. You were my refuge, my home, and my family. I never felt for even a moment that you doubted me," he said.
Following a leadership meeting in New Delhi on June 17, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge announced that Rahul would retain the Rae Bareli seat while vacating Wayanad for Priyanka's candidacy.
In his heartfelt message, Rahul also praised the "bravery, beauty and confidence" of young girls who translated his speeches, recalling their impact on his public engagements.
"I do not know how to thank you for what you have done for me. For the love and protection you gave me when I needed it most. You are part of my family and I will always be there for each and every one of you," Rahul concluded in his letter.
