As India lauds the triumph during Operation Sindoor, there is new focus on home-grown air defence system Akashteer. In a series of post on X, Bharat Electronics hailed the weapon and said that it has proved it mettle. “BEL is proud to announce that our in-house designed & manufactured Air Defence System, Akashteer, has proved its mettle in the war-field. Ground-based Defence Systems integrated with Akashteer made it hell for Pakistan's air adventures,” BEL said in the post.

Talking about its operational prowess, BEL said, “The system performed beyond users' expectations providing robust Air Defence to India during the current conflict. Akashteer ensures a seamless & unified air situation picture accessible to the lowest operational units of Army AD, enhancing situational awareness across the force.” The defence PSU also highlighted an important feature of the air defence system saying, “Akashteer empowers units on the front lines, enabling dynamic engagement decisions and preventing friendly-fire incidents.”

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), in collaboration with ISRO, have developed Akashteer—a next-generation Air Defence Control and Reporting System (ADCRS). This advanced, multi-layered system integrates AI-driven command capabilities with real-time satellite imagery from ISRO’s earth observation satellites.

Akashteer features autonomous drone swarms equipped with 5–10 kg payloads and operates through a zero-latency, indigenously built command grid. Its instant decision-loop AI enables rapid threat response, making it a powerful tool for both defensive and offensive operations.
