Businessman Sunjay Kapur — who passed away last month while playing polo in London, sparking a high-profile tussle between his mother and wife over the Rs 30,000 crore Sona Group — died of natural causes, British medical authorities have confirmed.

As per an NDTV report, his wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, on Sunday shared a letter by the Surrey Coroner's Office, which stated that their investigation “has revealed he died of natural causes.” The report identified left ventricular hypertrophy and ischemic heart disease as the medical reasons behind his death.

Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a condition marked by the thickening of the heart's left ventricle wall, often caused by high blood pressure or overworked heart muscles, which hampers effective blood flow. Ischemic heart disease, or coronary artery disease, results from restricted blood supply to the heart, commonly due to artery narrowing from plaque buildup (atherosclerosis).

“In light of this, the investigation has now been discontinued pursuant to Section 4 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009... there will be no need for an inquest,” the coroner's office said, as reported by NDTV.

The NDTV report further added that sources close to Priya Kapur said that the probe has now confirmed that there was no foul play in Sunjay Kapur’s death. They added that the report had been shared with his mother, Rani Kapur, days earlier — making her recent claims of “murder” and “transnational conspiracy” both surprising and “bewildering.”

Just last week, Rani Kapur had written to Surrey Police asserting that she had “credible and concerning evidence” suggesting Sunjay’s death may not have been accidental or natural. In her letter, she alleged the existence of forged documents, suspicious asset transfers, and possible collusion involving individuals — including Priya Kapur — who stood to benefit financially.

She further claimed that her son’s death may have been “facilitated or orchestrated” as part of a broader conspiracy involving actors in the UK, India, and possibly the United States.

This explosive allegation marked the latest chapter in an escalating and increasingly public family conflict. The controversy first emerged when Rani Kapur sent an e-mail to the board of Sona Comstar demanding the postponement of its AGM. Identifying herself as the “majority shareholder” of the Sona Group — which includes Sona Comstar and Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd — she claimed she had been “compelled to sign documents” while in mourning.
