Russia has expressed willingness to engage in discussions with the United States regarding a proposed peace initiative between Washington and Kyiv, with potential talks set to take place on March 13.
Following negotiations in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, Ukraine signalled its readiness to accept a 30-day ceasefire, while the U.S. confirmed it was presenting the proposal to Moscow.
"We are closely following and have been following the meeting of the US and Ukrainian representatives that took place in Jeddah on March 11. We have read the statement adopted as a result of it, which contains various ideas. At the moment, we have not received any official requests on this matter. For our part, we will be ready to discuss the initiatives outlined there during future contacts with the American side. I can also say that such contacts are possible today, and we will definitely inform you of their results, depending on the specifics that we have," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated.
Earlier, the Kremlin confirmed that U.S. negotiators were en route to Russia as Washington sought to formally present its ceasefire plan. While Kyiv has agreed to the U.S. proposal, Moscow has requested further details before providing its response.
Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov and U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz spoke on the phone on Wednesday.
"Negotiators are flying in and indeed contacts are scheduled," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed.
