In 2019, the Congress won 8 out of the 14 seats in the state, doubling its tally from 2014. Meanwhile, the SAD and its ally BJP won 2 seats each. The Aam Aadmi Party saw its tally decrease to just 1 in 2019 from 4 in 2014. This time, AAP is hoping to improve its performance, especially since forming the government in the state after winning the 2022 assembly elections.

The elections in Punjab will take place in the backdrop of the farmers launching a fresh protest against the Centre, demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP). The farmer stir, reminiscent of the months-long protest in 2020-21, is likely to dominate the political narrative in the state.
