Punjab will be voting in a single phase for the upcoming general election on June 1. The voting for the Lok Sabha polls will be held from April 19 to June 1 across the country, according to the announcement by the Election Commission of India.
In 2019, all 13 seats in Punjab voted in the seventh and final phase on May 19. The voting took place in the following constituencies: Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Khadoor Sahib, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Anandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Firozpur, Bathinda, Sangrur, Patiala.
Punjab is set to witness a multi-cornered fight in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections between AAP, Congress, SAD and BJP.
The ruling AAP and Congress, both members of the opposition bloc INDIA, are contesting the elections separately in the state as they are confident of their prospects on all 13 seats.
Meanwhile, despite buzz that SAD may return to the NDA and contest in alliance with BJP, there has been no official announcement yet.
In 2019, the Congress won 8 out of the 14 seats in the state, doubling its tally from 2014. Meanwhile, the SAD and its ally BJP won 2 seats each. The Aam Aadmi Party saw its tally decrease to just 1 in 2019 from 4 in 2014. This time, AAP is hoping to improve its performance, especially since forming the government in the state after winning the 2022 assembly elections.
