Kannada Development Authority Chairman Purushottama Bilimale has urged Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao to issue a circular mandating government hospital doctors to write medical prescriptions in Kannada.
“If government doctors across the state, including in taluk and district hospitals, prioritise using Kannada in their prescriptions, it will be a significant step in preserving the Kannada identity,” he said.
“If this is not made mandatory, its implementation may be affected. The state government’s firm stance is crucial, and doctors in all government health centers and hospitals must follow the order to write prescriptions in Kannada. Pro-language activism should also be acknowledged every year on Doctor's Day. It would be beneficial if doctors were recognised at the taluk, district, or state level.” said Bilimale.
Bilimale added, “Recently when I visited Raichur, I instructed district doctors to issue prescriptions in Kannada. Following this, many doctors volunteered to write prescriptions in Kannada, showing their commitment to the language. Several doctors have shared with me the prescriptions they wrote in Kannada.”
He said the state government’s assurance that it will encourage the use of Kannada in private hospitals will also help the development of Kannada.
