Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her sixth budget against the backdrop of a pivotal moment in India's political trajectory. With the nation on the cusp of crucial elections and navigating a rapidly evolving global economic landscape, Sitharaman's address was a poll bugle as she quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi thrice during her hour-long speech.
Sitharaman invoked the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi thrice, emphasizing on the significance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, new opportunities and national development.
Calling the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor a “strategic and economic game changer for India and others”, the finance minister quoted the PM: “The corridor will become the basis of world trade for hundreds of years to come, and history will remember that this corridor was initiated on Indian soil”.
Two of the Prime Minister’s quotes from last year’s Independence Day celebrations also found a place in Sitharaman’s speech.
Speaking of creating new opportunities, Sitharaman quoted the Prime Minister again.
“As Hon’ble Prime Minister in his Independence Day address to the nation mentioned, “There is no dearth of opportunities; as many opportunities as we want. The country is capable of creating more opportunities. Sky's the limit”,” she said.
The third time she invoked the PM was regarding the development of the country.
She said: “Hon’ble Prime Minister in his Independence Day address to the nation, in the 75th year of our Republic said; we “commit ourselves to national development, with new inspirations, new consciousness, new resolutions, as the country opens up immense possibilities and opportunities”."
