India has rejected Bangladesh's 'unwarranted' remarks on the West Bengal violence and said that Bangladesh "would do better to focus on protecting the rights of its own minorities". This comes after Bangladesh had called for the protection of the minority Muslim community after protests against the amended Waqf bill erupted in West Bengal.

"We reject the remarks made by the Bangladesh side with regard to the incidents in West Bengal," the External Affairs Ministry of India said, in response to the comments that came from Bangladesh.

India further said that Bangladesh's comments were nothing but "a barely disguised and disingenuous attempt to draw a parallel with India’s concerns over the ongoing persecution of minorities in Bangladesh where the criminal perpetrators of such acts continue to roam free."

"Instead of making unwarranted comments and indulging in virtue signaling, Bangladesh would do better to focus on protecting the rights of its own minorities," the Ministry of External Affairs said.

India's response came after Shafiqul Alam, Bangladesh's chief adviser's press secretary, called on India to "fully protect" its Muslim minority population. Apart from this, Alam also denied any Bangladeshi involvement in the Murshidabad violence through a statement to the local media in Bangladesh.

Murshidabad violence

As violence broke out in Suti, Shulian, Jangipur and Samserganj areas of Murshidabad amid the anti-Waqf (Amendment) Act protests in the city, at least three people have been killed.

This has prompted the deployment of security services across the area. Internet has also been suspended to escape any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that the communal violence in Murshidabad is pre-planned and hit back at BJP after it claimed that TMC was involved in the violence that is currently going in West Bengal's Murshidabad.
