This Tata model gets a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo.
Tata Motors' Nexon was the top-selling car in India in September 2025, beating all models from Maruti Suzuki India, Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India. The compact SUV sold 22,573 units last month, the highest among all cars in the country and also the best-ever monthly sales for any Tata passenger vehicle (PV).
A regular strong seller
The Nexon has been a steady performer in the Indian market for years. It was the highest-selling SUV for three years in a row, with 1.24 lakh units in FY22, 1.72 lakh units in FY23 and 1.71 lakh units in FY24. Sales dipped a little in FY25 to 1.63 lakh units, but the model is still going strong. In the first half of FY26 itself, between April and September, it has already sold close to 90,000 units. The September record just adds to its popularity in a crowded segment.
GST 2.0 push and discounts
One big reason for the jump in September sales was the
new GST 2.0 structure. Prices of the Nexon came down by up to Rs 1.55 lakh, making it more attractive to customers. Tata also gave benefits worth about Rs 45,000. With a starting price of Rs 7.32 lakh (ex-showroom), the Nexon is now pulling buyers not just from its own class but even from segments above and below.
Multiple powertrain choices
The Nexon is offered with several engine and fuel options, which also helps. The petrol versions get a 1.2-litre turbo engine with different gearboxes, while there is also a petrol-CNG option and a 1.5-litre diesel available in both manual and automatic. Tata has also brought in its new twin-cylinder CNG tech, which frees up boot space and is aimed at buyers looking for lower running costs.

Then there is the Nexon.ev, which gives customers an electric choice. It comes with two battery packs -- the 45kWh version delivers around 350-375km range in real conditions, while the 30kWh version does about 210-230km.
Safety and features
Safety is another big selling point. Both the petrol/diesel Nexon and the Nexon.ev have scored five stars in Bharat NCAP crash tests. Tata has built its brand around safety, with models like the Altroz, Punch.ev, Curvv, Curvv.ev, Harrier, Harrier.ev and Safari also rated with five stars.
On the features front, the Nexon packs in LED headlamps, ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, connected tech, voice-assisted sunroof and wireless charging. Safety kit includes six airbags, 360-degree camera, blind view monitor, ESP, tyre pressure monitoring, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and fog lamps with cornering.
Taking on rivals
The Nexon competes in one of the busiest SUV segments in India. Its main rivals are the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet and Skoda Kylaq. But thanks to its pricing, safety ratings, fuel options and the timely GST cuts, it managed to take the lead in September.
