Tata Motors is known for the high safety ratings of its cars. From hatchbacks to SUVs, Tata cars of all shapes and sizes have performed really well in safety tests. Now, compare this with Maruti models. There was a time when cars of Maruti Suzuki India would be criticised for their poor safety ratings. However, it all changed with the new-generation Dzire and the new Victoris. Recently, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno-rival Tata Altroz scored a 5-star safety rating at Bharat NCAP. Let us check out how the two premium hatchbacks fare against one another in terms of safety ratings, price and sales.
The Altroz performed way better with 29.65 points in the AOP category and 44.9 points in the COP category. It got five stars in all categories.
For reference, both cars come with six airbags, electronic stability control, and ABS with EBD as standard.
A major cause of this price difference is that the Baleno only gets petrol and CNG engines with MT and AMT options, while the Altroz has petrol, diesel and CNG motors with MT, AMT and DCA options.
For reference, Maruti sold 1,67,161 units of the Baleno in FY25, whereas Tata could sell merely 35,187 units of the Altroz during the fiscal, according to industry data. This clearly shows that the Baleno is more popular among buyers.
